Natural World Safaris: a 2,000-page site rebuilt in five months, rankings intact

4 Roads moved Natural World Safaris from Umbraco 7 to SocialStack in five months: close to 70,000 items migrated, with no downtime or drop in rankings.

The brief

A website that was slowing the business down.

The website of Natural World Safaris (NWS) ran on Umbraco 7. Its navigation was clumsy, content was buried, its search filters were hard to use, and the site was difficult to manage. Its SEO was poor, too, which cost it new customers.

NWS asked 4 Roads to move it to a faster platform, improve its SEO, and make it easier to use for customers and for its own team, in five months: a site of over 2,000 pages and more than 4,000 images.

  • To: SocialStack
  • Connected to: Peak 15, NWS's CRM

The migration

Close to 70,000 items moved, and nothing lost.

4 Roads moved the site from Umbraco to SocialStack, restructuring its architecture rather than copying it across, so that content and customers' journeys carried on without a break.

Close to 70,000 content items, from a site that had grown very large, were migrated with no downtime and no drop in search rankings. 4 Roads has since cut the content tree back considerably, to improve the site's SEO. The site's forms now send their data straight into Peak 15, NWS's CRM.

The design

Finding a safari, redesigned.

In two design sprints, 4 Roads reimagined the home page's search and navigation, wireframed a better way to search for a safari, and ran customer journey workshops mapping the whole experience, from the first click to booking. Performance and SEO were built in throughout.

Returning customers

A space of their own.

Once the site was live, 4 Roads built personal areas where returning customers manage their past safaris, shortlist new ones and book the next.

Results

Faster, easier to search, and nothing lost on the way.

The new site is faster, its search and navigation help people find the safari they want, and it is better optimised for search engines, on a platform that can grow with NWS.
