Acticare: a B2B ecommerce platform built for smarter care home procurement

4 Roads replaced Acticare's ecommerce platform with a B2B system linked to OGL and MaxOptra: budgets, approvals, preferred products and self-service.

This project forms a key part of Acticare's long-term digital strategy. It connects procurement, operational systems, and customer service into one platform. This has created a scalable foundation that will support future innovation and help us continue to raise standards across the care sector.

The brief

More than a shop. A procurement tool for care home groups.

Acticare needed an ecommerce platform that could support the way its clients actually buy: across departments, sites and head office teams, with clear controls over budgets, preferred products, approvals and delivery routines.

  • Client: Acticare
  • Sector: Care home supplies
  • Services: Strategy, design, development, ecommerce and systems integration
  • Systems: OGL and MaxOptra integrations

Platform capability

B2B controls that match real organisations.

  • Department-level budgets. Customers can manage spend at department level, while head office keeps oversight across the wider organisation.
  • Preferred product choices. Head office teams can guide buyers towards approved products, supporting consistency and better procurement governance.
  • Order approvals. Approval workflows give customers a clearer process for reviewing purchases before they move forward.
  • Scheduled delivery. Care homes can plan deliveries around operational routines, with delivery choices visible during ordering.
  • Out-of-band orders. The platform supports exceptions where buying needs sit outside normal patterns or budget rules.
  • Costed item quotes. Items that need pricing or requirements confirmed can move through a quote journey rather than a standard checkout.

Digital self-service

Clients can manage more of the buying process themselves.

The new platform gives Acticare's clients better visibility and control online. Budgets, approvals, products, scheduled deliveries and order history are brought into a self-service experience that reduces manual back-and-forth for everyday procurement tasks.

Systems integration

Connected to the operation behind the storefront.

The ecommerce platform integrates with OGL and MaxOptra, helping Acticare connect customer ordering with business processes and delivery planning. The result is a platform that supports the whole order journey, from account controls and checkout through to fulfilment and delivery.

Acticare now has a B2B ecommerce platform that reflects how care home procurement works in practice: controlled, flexible, visible and connected.

  • OGL integration supports cleaner links between ecommerce and business operations.
  • MaxOptra integration supports scheduled delivery and route planning workflows.
  • Customer self-service reduces reliance on manual support for routine ordering tasks.
