Gates Ventures: a community app that lifted interactions 25% in three months

4 Roads built Gates Ventures' Verint community a mostly native iOS and Android app: interactions up 25% in its first three months, and replies 30% faster.

The brief

A community that worked on a phone, but had no app.

Gates Ventures' online community runs on Verint Community, and works well in a phone's browser. But with no app of its own, it waited for people to come back to it: conversations stalled, and replies came late.

Design

Its own brand, on a phone.

The app opens on a home page designed for it. Beyond that, members find the community as they know it from the website, framed by a header and footer made for the app, with Gates Ventures' logo and brand throughout.

The build

Native where it counts, with the whole community inside.

The app was mostly native, so it was fast on a phone, with web views that opened everything else the community does. It was on iOS and Android.

  • Sign in, or register, from the app
  • The home screen is the community's activity feed
  • Push notifications for replies and comments
  • Buttons for News, Discussions, Challenges and more
  • The activity feed works offline

Results

More conversations, and faster replies.

In its first three months, community interactions rose by 25%, and with push notifications people replied 30% faster. The community reached people wherever they were, not only at a desk.
