When creating a new page, use the Page Details tab to enter the page title, name, and tags.

Page Title

The page title is visible to people reading the CMS page.

Page Name

The page name controls the URL through which people access the page. You may use this field to control the page's path and file name as seen by visitors on your website.

By default, the page's path will have the following format:

[web root]/pages/[cms section]/[page name].aspx

Where spaces in the page name will be converted to dashes. For example, if you specify a value like "office party" then the URL will have the following format:

[web root]/pages/[cms section]/office-party.aspx

You can also specify a page name such as "officeparty.aspx".

If you want the page to exist at a custom URL that does not contain the word "pages" or the CMS section name, you may enter any URL that you wish. For example:

/myCustomFolder/MyCMSPage.aspx

Custom URLs are relative to the containing group. If your domain is www.mydomain.com and the CMS section is located within the site root then the page could be accessed via the following URL:

http://www.mydomain.com/myCustomFolder/MyCMSPage.aspx

If the same page were located witnin the ProductA group then the URL would be as follows:

http://www.mydomain.com/ProductA/myCustomFolder/MyCMSPage.aspx

Tags

CMS pages may be tagged just like any other kind of post in Telligent Community. You may either enter tags into the Tags field, with each tag separated by a semi-colon, or choose pre-existing tags by clicking the Select Tags button.

The tags are added to the meta tags when the page is rendered.

Telligent Community does an awesome job of providing you with blogs, discussion forums, media galleries, and wikis. But it has limited support for letting you enter your own content that doesn't fit within those paradigms. Historically, Telligent Community has provided content parts, but the content within those controls could never be searched or versioned.

Wikis go a long way towards letting you enter custom content into your community, but they have several limitations. There's no workflow built around wikis and you cannot control the layout, from a widget point of view, for individual wiki pages. You're also limited in your ability to construct custom URLs.

Scribus addresses the limitations of content parts and wikis.

Control Page Layout and Content

Scribus has CMS Sections, which are analagous to weblogs and discussion forums. You can create any number of CMS sections. You add CMS sections to groups just like you do weblogs and other standard Telligent Community applications.

Within a CMS section, you can create one or more CMS pages. For any given CMS page, you can set the page layout and add widgets to the page, just like you would any other Telligent Community page.

You can add CMS widgets such as a CMS content area or comment widget, as well as any of the widgets included with Telligent Community. You may also add your own custom widgets to any region of the page.

You enter your customer content into CMS content widgets. A CMS page may have one or more content widgets.

Searching and Tags

Scribus extends the Telligent Community search provider, indexing every content widget on every CMS page. When you search for keywords, the standard search results page will include CMS pages containing content that matches your search keywords.

You may also add tags to CMS pages. The tags are inserted into the meta tags of the rendered page. The tags may also be included in tag clouds within the community.

Workflow and Versioning

Scribus participates in the Telligent Evolution security model. You may identify staff members as content editors, content publishers, and content administrators. Content editors create content but cannot publish it for consumption. Content publishers review and edit the work of content publishers, publishing the CMS pages to the front end of the website once they are ready. Content administrators may do the work of editors and publishers, but they also have administrative rights and capabilities for CMS sections and pages.

As your team constructs content pages, Scribus tracks what happens to the pages. It maintains an audit log of each action taken by your staff and maintains a version history of each page.

Read more about Content Roles or Permissions

Custom URLs

You may set a custom URL for any CMS page. The URL is relative to the group containing the CMS section. You may change the URL from version to version as you see fit. For example, version 1 of the About page could be at [site root]\aboutus.aspx. In version 2, you could change it to [site root]\about.aspx.

Insert Dynamic Content

You can construct CMS pages that contain a mix of static and dynamic content. It's easy enough to deliver dynamic content through the use of standard or custom widgets. However, if you need to insert dynamic content into your static content (e.g., hours of operation for a restaurant) then you can make use of Scribus code blocks. If you're an ASP.NET developer, think of code blocks as ASP.NET user controls. Any user control that you write can be turned into a code block and embedded into the content area of a CMS page.

Read more about Code Blocks

Scheduled Publishing

Scribus lets you set a start date and/or end date for each CMS page. For example, if you have seasonal content then you can schedule the page to appear at the start of the season and disappear at the end of the season.

These features fill a gap in the Telligent Community platform, giving you the flexibility to include content as you see fit.

NOTE: The following feature will not be available until Scribus v2.1.

If you want a CMS menu to appear in a group's navigation, do the following:

Create and publish a CMS menu in the appropriate CMS section.

Log in as a user who can modify the theme of the target group.

In the Control Panel, navigate to My Groups -> [your group] -> Themes. The theme page appears.

Click on the Navigation tab. You see a property named Content Menu. This property defines the CMS menu associated with the group. By default, it is set to Do not display which means no menu is associated with the group.

Select a content menu from those available in the dropdown list. If you created a menu but it does not appear in this list then make sure you published the menu.

Click the Save button.

Go to the group's home page. You should now see the CMS menu on the group page.

You can have any CMS menu appear in the site header. If you are using the out of the box Fiji theme in Telligent Community (TC), the CMS menu will appear above the standard TC menu. Of course, this most likely will not fit in with your branding or be in the exact location you want it to appear within the header. You'll need somebody to help you update the styling and position of the menu.

To configure a CMS menu such that it appears in the site header, please do the following:

Log in as a user who can modify the site theme.

Go to the Control Panel.

Navigate to System Administration -> Site Administration -> Site Theme. When the site theme page renders, you'll see a Content Menu property. This is where you associate a CMS menu with the site theme. By default, it is set to "Do not display" which means there is no CMS menu in the site header.

Select the CMS menu that is to appear and click the Save button. If you go back to the home page then you will see the CMS menu in the site header.

Each CMS section may contain one or more menus. Each menu may have one or more menu items and the menu items may be nested. Menus are versioned.

Menus have a workflow process like pages. The Content Editor role may create menus and the Content Publisher role may both create and publish menus.

To create a menu, do the following:

Log in as a user who can create menus.

Go to your CMS Section.

Click the Create Menu tab. The Create Menu page appears. On the left are two fields where you can enter a menu title and menu name. On the right is an area where you can see the items in the menu.

Enter a title for the menu. This is the title people will see when looking at the list of available menus in the Control Panel.

Enter a name for the menu. The name serves as a unique identifier for the menu.

On the right side of the page, click the Add button. A modal dialog appears. You'll enter the menu details into this dialog.

Enter the title of the menu item. This is what people will see when they view the menu within the community.

Enter a key for the menu item. This serves as a unique identifier.

Enter a tooltip. This text appears in a tooltip window when a user moves their mouse over the menu item.

Enter the destination URL. You can prefix the URL with a tilde (~) to represent the root of the website. For example, ~/company/aboutus.aspx. The URL may go to one of your CMS pages or to any other URL in the website or on the internet.

Enter one or more roles that have permission to see and click the menu item. If all registered and anonymous users may see this menu item then enter Everyone. You may enter one or more roles with the role names separated by commas.

Click the Save button. The dialog closes and you see the menu item listed in the tree view.

If you want to save your changes and edit the menu later, click the Save button.

If you are a Content Editor and have finished building the menu, click the Submit button. The menu is now ready for a Content Publisher to review.

Use the Edit and Delete buttons to edit menu items and delete menu items, respectively.

To create nested menu items, position the mouse pointer over the menu item to be nested. Hold down the left button and drag the menu item onto its parent menu item. Once you release the left mouse button, the menu item will be nested under the target menu item.

If you are a Content Publisher and you are reviewing the menu prior to its being made public, click the Publish button to accept the menu.

See also: Attach a menu to the site header, Attach a menu to a group, Embed a menu within a page

Menus can be embedded not only in the site header and groups, but also within a CMS page itself. You can use page-level menus for secondary or tertiary navigation. Page-level menus are very flexible. Each page may have one or more embedded menus and you may use different menus on different pages.

To add a menu within a CMS page, do the following:

Log in as a System Administrator. Note: In Scribus v2.1, the various content roles will be able to add a CMS content menu to a CMS page.

Create or edit a CMS page. The page editor appears.

Locate a widget named "CMS - Content Menu" in the list of available widgets.

Drag the CMS Content Menu widget onto the page. You can drag it into any part of the page.

Edit the properties of the widget. A modal dialog appears.

You see a property named Menu. This is the content menu that is to be rendered by the widget. Select the content menu.

Click the Save button. At this point, you should see the menu on the page being edited.

Submit and/or publish your changes and go to the page in the public side of the community. You see the menu.

See also: Create a menu, Attach a menu to the site header, Attach a menu to a group
